Introduction
Welcome to the October edition of our newsletter! At Elevated Minds, we're committed to empowering young people and their families, closing the gap between performance and potential. This month has been packed with impactful initiatives and exciting plans for October and beyond. Here’s a recap of what we’ve accomplished within the last month and what’s on the horizon.
Cultural Awareness Training at Peckham Police Station
This month, our incredible Youth Ambassadors completed Cultural Awareness Training at Peckham Police Station. The Ambassadors delivered a powerful session to new police recruits, focusing on essential topics such as racism, stereotyping, discrimination, and bias, as well as the four Workstreams from the Police Race Action Plan (PRAP). This training aims to build better communication and trust between the police and the Black community.
The discussions included thoughts on The Race Action Plan and its significance, followed by an impactful Stop and Search role-play led by our young Ambassadors. A huge shoutout to Rhiannon, Maria, Jean-Paul, Daniella, Naveah, Freya, and Ezekiel for their hard work and dedication! We also extend our gratitude to the police officers who listened to our voices and engaged with us.
The Identity Project at Ark Walworth Academy
We’ve officially started delivering the Identity Project at Ark Walworth Academy. This project is designed to help young people explore their identity, significantly improve their emotional intelligence, and develop a sense of purpose. Through interactive sessions, participants gain valuable insights that empower them to embrace who they are.
New Programme: Empower X
In response to the urgent need to address Violence Against Women and Girls, we have rolled out our brand-new programme, Empower X, at St Saviour’s and St Olave’s Church of England School. This initiative aims to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to navigate challenges related to gender-based violence.
Au Revoir to our Year 13 Youth Ambassadors
This month, we had the pleasure of hosting a farewell get-together for our Year 13 Youth Ambassadors before they head off to university. This gathering allowed us to celebrate their achievements and reflect on the journeys they’ve undertaken with Elevated Minds and beyond.
Thrive Black Leadership Programme
We’re excited to announce our continued involvement in the Thrive Black Leadership Programme with Canterbury Christ Church University. This programme is designed to empower Black heritage students through growth mindset strategies, positive affirmations, and action learning sets.
